You guessed it - another cycle of America's Next Top Model has begun! Yay!!! But for some reason this cycle, more girls than ever immediately got on my nerves. I think it's because of their voices. There are two that sound like Nu Yawk homegirls, one with a heavy Russian accent and one who sounds like she's high. And none of them look like models yet.
But the good news is that there are more black girls in the final 13 than I've ever seen before - 6!!! And 3 are very brown-skinned and one of these three is plus size. But, wait, you say, I only see 5. Well, one is mixed - can you tell which one she is?
The bad news is, one of the black girls was the first to be cut - Kathleen. If you look closely, she's wearing what can only be described as an afro-puff. Whether it's real or not is questionable, but at least it's an attempt at something close to natural looking hair. I wonder what Tyra would have done to her hair during the makeover. The other 4 (not counting the mixed one) are obviously sporting weave. In fact, during the episode, one showed Tyra how she sewed the edges down! Another one bragged about knowing the exact color number to ask for in the hair store - 1B something or other. I can already see the new weaves coming - flowing and blowing in the wind. Can't they find a natural style that consists of more than a short fade?
My personal choice to go would have been Natasha (the one from Russia). Not because of her voice, but because she's short and thinks she's way cuter than she actually is. And she was as annoying as hell!! But, to be real, Kathleen was borderline dense!

I LOVE this show although I'm not too happy at the opening of this one it was pretty lame lol. Kathleen's hair was a weave she told them during the interviews. I really liked her look though so yeah I was wondering what they would do to her. I think they kept YaYa sort of natural during her season without cutting her hair.
Oh and I wanted Natasha to go home as well I don't like her.
I didn't even know a new season started and I am a fan of the show. I'll have to play catch up.
mahoganybutterfly - Yes, I remember YaYa! I actually wanted her to win over Eva. Natasha is going to get on my last nerve - she needs to go with a quickness!
Tanya - They do a rerun on Sundays at 9pm.
Thanks for the GREAT synopsis! I fell asleep during the beginning and woke during the goodwill fashion show, which i "scoffed" at(according to sogent) some of the girls' finds because they couldn't touch my thrift creations (and from looking at the pieces you found for your children in a previous post, you too). I was reading your post and wondered if you've ever modeled? It seems like you are tall, and we all know that you are very beautiful from your pics. If not, I think you could work the cat walk!
Afro puff had to go. I like her look but her photo shoot was totally wack! I think that Jaslene will be off next week, I cannot see her staying much longer. The mixed chick from Detroit Jael is my cousins boyfriend play cousin & from what I hear, she is very different & I will leave it at that!
One thing that me & friends noticed is that the mixed chick over the last few seasons have been from Detroit. Just kinda ironic.
You are right, there are more Black girls & I think that's cool.
I was just interested to see what these so called "plus size" models looked like...they are acceptable...I will just always be annoyed that plus size means normal. :)

And Kathleen can go...She was part of the bad fake hair parade. WHAT WAS WITH THAT?!? Everyone with a weave or sewn in wig was highlighted...enough
I don't watch much TV but this is my favorite show. ...Yes Tyra got a lot of work to do with these chickies. They are all cute enough but (brains?) I'm saying jeesh don't they watch ANTM at all??? If they did they should know how to work it already.
Ayankha - I said the same thing about the thrift store outfits - they were uninspired to say the least! And go ahead, butter me up! No. I'm only 5'5" But Goldie is hoping they still have the show on when she turns 18. At 12, she's about 5'2" and seems to add an inch every time I look.
Bygbaby - I knew you were a fan of the show. C'mon, we want the dirt on Jael!
Cluizel - I probably have the same ones on my got to go list. Can't wait to see what's under those weaves!

Brenda, I am addicted like a reality TV fool. I started watching about 4 cycles ago with my girls, it is a sad family affair sitting around the boob tube. LOL
@ Cluizel, I don't even want to know what is up under all of that glue & thread. I'm sure it will be a bunch of hit mess, naps & funk.
I mean, how long can you wear a kitchen sew in without letting some soap & water hit it. LOL

I to am a fan but it seems every cycle there is drama, what is up with the Russian girl and the 40 yr old husband. I believe she just wanted a green card and the chick from HI, didn't she know that it wasn't a day trip when she auditioned for the show? And the high fashioned photographer Ms. Sara really worked my nerves. I don't think Kathleen was the worse but she did seem to have air for brains. There doesn't seem to be any educated women on the show this cycle or they don't want anyone to know how smart they are. It would be great if a plus size model won, for that would get rid of the stigma that one have to be a size 2 to make it in high fashion modeling.
ok first off, Kathleen was protrayed as being a serious airhead, poor baby. at this moment i'm not feeling any of the girls there except for the the two plus size (probably a size 10) models. they seem to be the most realistic and down to earth.
and remember yall, they only had 3 mins to get their goodwill outfits together. i think Jael did a great job considering and deserved to win. so whats the scoop on Jael bygbaby? her voice is borderline annoying to me. peace
Okay, as much as I dislike the Russian girl, you know that she is going to stay a little while jsut for the drama aspect! She is not particularly pretty, short by model standards, has poorly bleached blond hair, has an over-inflated sense of herself and is a green-card wife. There is always one high-drama queen on the show but most of the time they end up with a choice that I can agree with, which is what keeps me from throwing in the remote! Natasha better watch out tho... the INS might come after her!
Jael was a surprise and Renee, the Hawaii chick, is the most mean spirited Hawaiian I have ever seen! Where is that "aloha" spirit!?!? I am not sure who I will end up liking this season but I know I will be watching!
Who knew there were so many ANTM fans!
