How low can you go

If you recall, I started the new year with a decision to cut some length from the front. After putting down my scissors, I think I cut anywhere from 8 inches on the sides to 12 inches off the top. I'm happy with that decision since my hair has looked fuller on top and really keeps a curl there much better. In fact, not that I was trying not to wash my hair, but I actually let it go over three weeks just to see how long the curl would last. When I did wash it, it still had some curl on top, although I'd been wearing it in a ponytail since the back was just wavy. Thank you SoftSpikes!

But more and more, friends ask, "how long are you going to let your hair grow?" Believe me, that was not a question I'd have ever thought I'd be asked before I locked. I can tell I'm still not ready to cut the back and I'm willing to let it go for awhile longer. It must have something to do with the fact that my hair has never been anywhere near this length before and it's just facinating! I can honestly say that while there are some annoying aspects to having hair this length (getting it caught between your back and the chair when you lean back, having to pull it out from under your purse strap, and having it fall in your face when you bend over) it's not enough yet to make me want to cut it. I think I'll reevaluate when it gets to the point where I'm actually sitting down on it! Which brings me to these pictures. My hair is finally waist length!

The picture on the left was taken in May 06, when my hair was 5yrs 9mos. On the right, which was taken on February 19, my hair is 6yrs 6mos. I didn't realize how much it grew until I put these pictures side by side. It looks like almost 4 inches in 9 months! At this rate, I'll be sitting on it in the next 3-4 years!

I wonder the same thing. I think I'm going to stop at the bra-strap length, but I have a few years to think about it.

Your hair grows fast! 4 inches of locks is probably 6 inches were it to be pulled straight. I think average is 6 inches per year. But, why be average, espcially when you have such lovely hair!

Brenda, you darn near look like you were born with Sisterlocks girl. You said your hair is/was thin so I checked out your older post. Where's the proof? Am I gonna have to dig thru that forest full of locks to see what u see?
What more can I say but, yo locs roc! And one last question. Did you always have growth comparable to this b4 you got Sls?

Your hair is amazing!

I want to sit on my hair before I cut it...

Brunsli - I've seen your comparison pics and you've been having a growth spurt, too!

Valenciajaz - One thing you'll probably never see from me is a pic looking down on top of my head - if you did, you'd know what I was talking about! I've learned to style well. And I'm amazed at the growth also. When my hair was relaxed, you couldn't have told me that my hair was growing this much or this fast - I always had to cut off almost as much as I got retouched so it was never noticeable.

Cluizel - Crystle Gayle, here we come!!

whoa, your hair grows quickly. like valenciajaz, i also searched for the pictures that showed thinning, lol.

my hair is so nicely short right now, i can't fathom what it would be like to have locs as long as yours. however, it sure would be nice just to see for myself. peace

Work it on out girl!!! Your SL are gorgeous. I like how you have documented your length. I need to pull out my camera. My hair is around bra strap length now and I think waist length will be my limit and then out will come the scissors...okay MAYBE NOT ...anyways, your hair looks fabulous!

brenda, didnt you just cut a foot of hair off????lol!!this is amazing. scissors must be a signal to YOUR follicles to grow.you must do a blog one day on how you sleep...do you use a satin pillow case, what holds all those locks together in one place/space/etccc...do you usually wear them in a bun during the day..all that good stuff
you are taking excellent care of your hair! congrats!

You go girl!! I often wonder how long i would want my hair. All the super loooong hair I've seen has been on white women, and it always looks limp and icky, in need of some TLC and a good haircut...

You hair looks fabulous, and yes, grow it out!!!

But yeah, how on earth DO you sleep?? I keep getting images of you like Rapunzel, waking up in a tangled web of locks!! If Brunsli looks like Marge Simpson, I can't imagine how you manage...

Your hair is beautiful. When I see photo's like yours I get more and more excited about the potential of my locks.

Keep up the great work!

Chosen Vessel, NappyTexanGirl, Ayankha, Tra and Mel - Thank you all. I'm looking forward to congratulating all of you when you reach your next milestones, whatever they may be. You all have great hair too!

brenda...absolutely beautiful...the length is simply amazing...i was reading an older post on tai's blog where he talked about how easy it is to lose locks, particularly when you wash them once they get really long because of the weight if they are thin...you often mention that you have thin hair(though none of us can tell)...have you found this to be a problem when you wash your hair?

your sisterlocks are gorgeous. scissors can be your friend too! i recently cut about 8 inches all the way around and i love it! whew! it really is possible to have too much hair. i have had sisterlocks for 11 years so it was down to there and beyond. but then again i have a 20 month old who loves to pull my hair, and given the choice between her and my sisterlocks i would choose...uh, uh, uh, her.

Brenda said...

Veronica - Thanks!

Muslimahlocs - Thanks. I would have loved to see 11 year old locs!
